Kris's quotes about tonight game against the Flyers

December 15, 2009 Penguins vs Flyers
On hard-hitting games against Philadelphia:
It’s always a game that’s got a lot of physical play. You always see some scrums in front of the net.
On not being sucked in to taking penalties:
You don’t want to do that. We want to play a fast game, our style of hockey. So you don’t want to stop the play every 30 seconds. We want to play hard, just try to play to our strengths.
On the Flyers:
They have a really good team, very good defense. I think it’s going to be very important to play with our speed and make sure we put the puck deep.
On knowing how Philadelphia plays the game:
We know them really well. We know how they play. Every night they play the same way. They’re aggressive and they’re really hard on the puck. It’s going to be important to manage it and make sure we don’t give anything.

Interesting Stats for Defensemen Shootouts Article

2008-2009 Season

2007-2008 Season

Interesting quote from the article about Kris,

"But as any Pittsburgh Penguins fan will tell you, Kris Letang, may be the king of the shootout for defensemen in the NHL. He's 8-for-20 for his career, and tied with Petr Sykora with eight attempts last season."

Letang Sidelined for 2 Weeks

Source: Official Pittsburgh Penguins website

BOSTON -- The Penguins announced that defenseman Kris Letang will be sidelined for two weeks after suffering a shoulder contusion against the San Jose Sharks last Saturday.

Letang left the game halfway through the first period and did not return. On Sunday, Letang joined his teammates as they flew from San Jose to Boston. After arriving in Boston, he boarded his own flight headed to Pittsburgh so that he could meet with team doctors Monday.

Letang has seven points (1G-6A) through 17 games this season and averages 21:21 minutes of ice time per game, the fourth highest total on the team.

Letang's injury is the latest setback for a Penguins team that has been decimated by injuries. Pittsburgh is missing over a fourth of its lineup due to injuries to Sergei Gonchar (broken left wrist), Evgeni Malkin (shoulder strain), Max Talbot (shoulder) and Tyler Kennedy (undisclosed).

Kris's comments for tonights game against Montreal 10-28-09

On the fast start:
We are still hungry – we want more. We have the same team. We talked over the summer how we think we can be a better team than we were last year because the process we had last year was just 25 games and now we have a whole season. I think we can get better.
On how comfortable he is at the point of the power play with Goligoski:
We are two guys who are the same mentally in terms of getting involved in the offense and jumping into the rush. We always think offense so when I see Alex with the puck I know pretty much what he is trying to do so I try to put myself in position where he can see me. We understand each other pretty well.
On just needing one power-play goal to get more to follow:
Yes, exactly. Sometimes you have bad bounces but one is going to go in and then we are going to be more comfortable and be a more active power play.
On the danger of trying to do too much:
Yeah, you try to do too much or you get too fancy. We have to keep a simple game, put shots to the net and go for the rebounds.

News Article about Kris Letang

Penguins Notebook: Letang gets over biting incident
Sunday, October 11, 2009
By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

TORONTO -- Kris Letang was in genuine pain when, he said, Philadelphia winger Scott Hartnell bit him on the right ring finger during a scrum in the waning seconds of the Penguins' 5-4 victory in Philadelphia Thursday.

Learning late the next afternoon that Hartnell would not be fined or suspended by the league, presumably because of a lack of irrefutable video evidence that he had sunk his teeth into Letang, did not hurt nearly as much.

"I'm over it," Letang said yesterday, a few hours before the Penguins faced Toronto at the Air Canada Centre.

"What happened, happened, and the people [in the league office] who had to make the decision did their best, probably.

"I've just got to be focused on my game and not worry about it anymore."

Letang, by the way, still had the top third of his injured finger bandaged.

Just something cute about Kristopher Letang #58 of the Penguins

New Penguins teammates

Defenseman Kristopher Letang came out to take a look at the ice at the St. Pete Times Forum before practice yesterday and found himself on the ice with penguins.

Real penguins.

They were being videotaped as part of the scoreboard show. The penguins sauntered out of the runway on a red carpet, then waddled into the penalty box. Letang, the only person on the ice besides the handlers and videographers, spent some time petting them before heading into the dressing room and putting on his equipment.

"It was funny to see our logo in real life. And we're in Tampa, and when you think of penguins you thing of cold in the north," Letang said. "But it was really fun and they're really soft."
