Jersey Sales article about the Penguins including Letang

Penguins' Crosby Tops NHL Jersey Sales for Sixth Consecutive Season

In Jim Carrey’s newest movie Mr. Popper’s Penguins, he proudly wears the jersey of Penguins captain Sidney Crosby in a scene where he plays hockey in his living room.

Looks like he’s not the only one.

Despite missing the second half of the 2010-11 National Hockey League regular season due to injury, Crosby led the league in jersey sales for the sixth consecutive year according to Sports Business Daily. That means Crosby has led the league in jersey sales since his rookie season.

Crosby, who was leading the NHL with 32 goals and 66 points at the time of his injury, was joined on the list by teammates Evgeni Malkin (No. 5 overall), Marc-Andre Fleury (10th) and Kris Letang (17th) – making Pittsburgh the lone team with four of the top-17 overall leaders in jersey sales.

Crosby and Malkin were joined in the top-five by Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and Chicago’s Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.

Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Letang were all voted into the 2011 NHL All-Star Game that took place in Raleigh, North Carolina on Jan. 30. They were four of the first six players to be named to the All-Star Game via fan balloting.

Crosby was the top-voted player overall with 635,509 total votes. Malkin placed third in voting among forwards with 376,887 votes. Neither player was able to participate in the game due to injury.

Letang led all write-in candidates and ranked first among defenseman with 477,960 votes. Fleury was the top-voted goaltender with 462,305 votes.
